FAQs

How much should I take/use?

Dosage is a highly personal part of herbal products. Each of our products have general recommended dosage for Adults, but we highly encourage some independent research and intuition. Most of the herbs we use have a general formula of drops per weight (generally the ratio is the standard of 30 drops per 150lbs unless otherwise specified) which is especially helpful for kiddos and a lot of those numbers are based on decades of research by a multitude of herbalists. You can also typically determine intuitively and many naturopaths can guide you in dosages too. Some products are really general support of the systems of the body, while others may be designed to fighting infection. It is always best to consult with any practitioners you may be seeing for yourself or your kiddos. If you’re just trying something out, start with a drop or two and increase as needed!

How do you source your plants, oils, etc?

All plants used are either ethically wildcrafted, homegrown in the community garden, or grown in small organic gardens. All products have an origin of plant material on the website.

HONEY & BEESWAX - I buy raw, unfiltered, unheated honey from a small beekeepers all around the Puget Sound Area, and I buy blocks of beeswax from those same folk!

WATER - Currently I use distilled water, but am going to be experimenting some this summer with water from a tested artisanal well over in Shoreline WA.

ALCOHOL - I use non-gmo organic, gluten free cane alcohol from ‘Organic Alcohol Company’ made in Ashland, Oregon. Previously I used small batch vodka made in Iceland! Each product has it noted which alcohol was used in it.

VINEGAR - I use raw, unpasteurized Organic apple cider vinegar with the mother.

OILS - I’ve got several sources for oils but they are all organic, cold pressed and the best/cleanest/non-gmo oils I can find. Most of them I can actually purchase through one of the local Co Ops!

Are your products safe to use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

This is such an important question, so please consult with your primary care physician, health practitioner or midwife. Here in the state of Washington, I’m not allowed to answer this question without directly working with you, reviewing medical history etc.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Typically we don’t, but you’re always welcome to send us an email and ask sia@folkandfireshop.com. We are hoping to create a community fund that allows for us to offer this on a more full time basis.

What is a…..tincture/vinegar/etc?

They’re all different methods of extracting the goodness out of the plants. Tinctures refer to an alcohol based extraction, acetates or ACV are vinegar based, teas are water based, salves are oil based. Elixirs can be either alcohol and honey or vinegar and honey, so double check your ingredients if you’re sensitive/looking to avoid something.
